When Should You Stain a New Fence?

Let’s admit it, wooden fences are appealing even in their natural state. However, due to weather elements such as rain and UV lights, they lose their aesthetic aspect quickly. It is for this reason that staining a new fence is paramount.

Applying privacy fence stain should happen once the wood is dry since staining your fence when it is wet will cause the stain not to adhere. Particularly for pine fences. However, if you use cedar, you can stain your privacy fence right after installation.

If the old stain is still on the fence, the Wood Defender® stain will not penetrate into the wood.

If you have a new fence, Texas Fence recommends applying a coat of Wood Defender® transparent fence stain two weeks after installation. We always use a chemical clean before we stain a fence with Wood Defender® fence stain to kill any mold spores that may be on your fence. Mold spores can still grow under a fence stain if it is applied while your fence still has living mold spores on it.
